Ontario Ticketing Legislation (Update)
The Office of the Attorney General (ON) released the new Ticket Sales Act (formerly the Ticket Speculation Act) proposed legislation on October 5, 2017, as part of a larger consumer protection bill. Key highlights in the proposed legislation include:
- Banning ticket “bots”
- Capping the resale price of tickets at 50% above face value
- Requiring businesses selling tickets to disclose more information to consumers
While Music Canada Live applauds the Government of Ontario for its efforts, we have serious concerns with some aspects of the proposed legislation and have been advocating vigorously for changes. In addition to the series of recommendations Music Canada Live made over over the winter and spring, we are are working closely with our members and the office of the Attorney General to ensure that policy and legislation reflect the best interests of Music Canada Live members and the live music sector.
