BC Music Fund: New Programs Announced for Live
On Thursday, December 15th Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia announced additional BC Music Fund programs. A total of $3.8 million has been allocated for three new programs: live music, research and industry initiatives. Of this, $2.5 million has been directed to Live Music-specific programs which will support festivals, clubs, venues, presenters and events. The deadline for the first Live Music intake is February 1, 2017.
In recent months, Music Canada Live convened over 26 live music stakeholders, forming a Regional Advisory Council (RAC) in BC. The role of the Council is to work together to highlight and champion the work and impact of the live music sector. As a result of these meetings, Music Canada Live was able to directly deliver the live music sector’s priorities to the BC Music Fund and Creative BC, positively and directly impacting the outcomes of the programs guidelines.
“This is important news for BC’s live music industry, and we encourage our members to make applications to the program”, says Music Canada Live Executive Director Erin Benjamin, “We are pleased to see many of our immediate needs and priorities reflected in the guidelines. Creative BC has been consultative and eager to learn. This is a tremendous opportunity for our members, and another shining example of a government leading the way and leveraging their live music economies for maximum economic, social and cultural impact.”
“ […] Live music events, regardless of size, give us all a voice from both sides of the stage, and have a significant cultural and economic impact on BC communities. The BC Music Fund is a great opportunity to assist the creation and sustainability of music and musicians and foster the avenues of presentation across our beautiful province.” Alvaro Prol, Co-Founder, Blueprint Entertainment, Music Canada Live Member
